Jason's Story
My name is Jason Dean I am 34
years old. My problems started when I was 16, when I herniated a disc in
my lower back. I managed to live a normal life with the help of a
chiropractor. I reinsured my self and caused more herniated disc's about
4 years ago. This is when things started going down hill. Within the
last 4 years I have had 3 discectomy's. After the last surgery things
got worse with my back. The last mri showed that I had 5 torn disc, 1
degenerative disc disease, 1 herniated disc. The doctors exact words
were"Bummer", apply for disability and live on pain medication. I felt
hopeless and did not know what to do. I was taking vicadin, neurontin,
topomax, flexeral. I could not work anymore, my personality had changed
and I was depressed. I could not live with the decision that the doctor
gave me so I decided to do some research on the internet. Thats when I
came across the stenum hospital, it sounded to good to be true. I
contacted Malte the very next day, he was very positive and said that
they would do there best to help me. I sent my Mri the next day and
within a month they had the results and a date scheduled for me. I was
concerned because of my religious beliefs(Jehovahs Witness) about the
blood loss. They put my mind at ease and assured me that it was not a
problem because of the modern equipment that they have. My wife and I
were very excited to start the process. They helped us and our other two
family members that went with us, with all arrangements. Upon arrival we
were greeted at the airport and taken to our room. The next morning
someone came to pick us up and take us to the clinic. Everyone was very
friendly and professional which put my mind at ease. We meet with the
doctors and they answered all our questions and my surgery was scheduled
the next day. It was nice to be there with other Americans that we had
so much in common with. We all shared our back problems, and then it was
good to see everyone progress after surgery. After surgery they had the
physical/message therapist work with me on how to get up out of bed and
walk. There was not much pain because of the good medications that they
use. The staff was very attentive to all my needs. The hospital food was
great especially the snack in the afternoon. It has now been 3 months
and I feel much much better. I have made sure to do everything that they
told me to do, such as Feldenkrais, physical therapy, walking and
message therapy. In the last month I have played tennis, swimming,
traveled to New Mexico for 13 hours. I have no problem with sitting,
walking or standing. I cant wait to see what I will feel like in the
next 3 months. This surgery has changed my life and I would recommend it
to anyone suffering from back pain.
