Danny Peavy ADR 1 at Alpha Clinic, ADR 2 Stenum Hospital I’ve had lower back pain since early 90’s, but by late 90’s my condition worsened to the point at losing ability to work, … unable to do simple chores like driving to the market to shop. During the years I tried physical therapy, pain killers, hot packs, cold packs, braces, electro- stymills, epidurals, facet blocks, even a micro laser disectomy surgery July 2001. Nothing even helped or worked and it’s not good life to rely on pain pills to only be able to sit / stand one hour maximum each day. I saw disc replacement being tested on patients in the U.S. While watching news one evening 2002. I’ve seen my MRI’S / x-rays and felt this surgery would help me. I found via internet Alpha Klinik in Munich, Germany. I had ADR one level L3-4 25th April 2003 at Alpha Klinik. The hospital was excellent, and staff were very warm and friendly. My L3-4 was immediately better but I still had pain at L4-5. Sadly, I knew I needed another ADR surgery. I found Stenum hospital in Bremen, Germany via internet and thought I should get a second opinion. Mr. Malte Petersen at Stenum Hospital did in fact confirm my suspicion that I needed additional ADR at L3-4. I had mailed my MRI/ x-rays to Stenum and the surgeon team felt one more ADR would eliminate my pain… I checked into Stenum Hospital 15th December 2003, surgery L4-5 level on December 19th, 2003. Yesterday on 23rd 2003, only 6 days after surgery I was able to walk and sit 3-4 hours with little pain, and without having to take any pain medication for the first time in years. I am very very happy that I decided to come back to Germany for additional ADR instead of having bone fusion in the U.S. I had to cancel my scheduled fusion for 8th January 2004, only 4 weeks away. Man, was I lucky. Alpha Klinik is execellent, but I personally recommend Stenum Hospital. At Stenum you are greeted at the Airport, checked into the hospital immediately, and Mr. Petersen and surgeon Dr. Zechel personally talk to you daily. The staff is friendly, helpful, and caring. They make you feel at home. Also at Stenum paired with another person having ADR surgery same time as you. This is a good idea, because 2 help eachother through each stage of recovery. The past 3 days my surgery partner Ted and his wife and I have had walks, lunches, shopping and good sharing in the beautiful town of Bremen, Germany . Next to the hotel I like to try foods in the little shops, and treats to me while in Europe. Mostly thought it is just wonderful to be able to walk and sit. To be able to eat a snack and drink coffee and talk without having pain pills. I am so very happy and recommend this surgery over fusion because its done through to forward and they don’t have to cut your muscles ….., and tendons in your back. It makes for an almost immediate recovery time. After only one week you are able to function very well. But if you have a doubt as to if 2 discs are bad instead of only 1, I recommend having the 2 discs done on the first surgery. It’s fun but 1 surgery is always better than 2, ha ha. Thank you so much Malte Petersen, surgeon Dr.Zechel/Dr.Ritter-Lang and the staff at the Stenum Hospital for saving my life.
